testing & evaluation
what is a psychological evaluation?
Psychological evaluations are similar to what labs are for your physical health. Psychologists and psychological examiners use scientifically validated and data driven testing materials to answer a question.
Common questions that people seek to answer through psychological evaluations include:
“Why am I having trouble focusing?”
“Is it depression or is it bipolar disorder?”
“Why do I have a difficult time in close relationships?”
“Is it anxiety or is it OCD?”
“How can I better understand myself and my personality?”
“who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes”

FAQs
what can i expect during the first appointment?
We will meet for an hour, and I will ask you what you want to know about yourself, and what symptoms you have been experiencing. I will explain different tests offered, and we will come up with a evaluation battery that works best for you. I will also ask about significant relationships in your life, family history, previous therapeutic experiences, medical history, employment and education history, etc.
how long does an evaluation take?
Depending on the evaluation being conducted we will either meet once, twice, or three times face to face. Each of these appointments range from an hour to two hours.
There are also what we call “self-report” materials that can be completed on your own time through an online platform.
It typically takes me between 3-6 weeks to get results turned around. During this time I will be reviewing, scoring materials, writing up the report, and making treatment recommendations based on results.
After the report is done, it will be shared with you through a secure patient portal. We will then meet for another hour to review results and I can answer any questions you may have.
Do you evaluate for autism spectrum disorder?
No. However, I do have colleagues that do and am happy to be a resource for information and referrals.
do you evaluate for ADHD?
Yes.
do you evaluate for disability benefits?
I do not.
How much does an evaluation cost?
The cost of an evaluation can range anywhere from $1200-$2500 without insurance. Many insurance plans do cover or partially cover evaluations. I always advise prospective patients to call their insurance company and inquire directly regarding coverage so that there are no surprises.
